Bhagavad Gita

The Bhagavad Gita, often referred to as the Gita, is a 700-verse Hindu scripture that is part of the epic Mahabharata, dated to the second half of the first millennium BCE and considered one of the holy scriptures for Hinduism. Composed as a dialogue between Prince Arjuna and the god Krishna, who serves as his charioteer, it takes place on the battlefield just before the start of a great war. In the midst of Arjuna's moral dilemma about fighting in the war, Krishna imparts spiritual wisdom and guidance.

The Gita addresses the concepts of dharma (duty/righteousness) and yoga (the path to realization and self-mastery) and presents a synthesis of various paths to spiritual realization, primarily the paths of devotion, action, and knowledge. It's revered for its philosophical depth and has been considered a spiritual guidebook for life. The teachings of the Gita are broad, universal, and non-sectarian, though they are a key text for followers of Hinduism.
